BCKA success on World Stage -

9 fighters from the BCKA once again proved that the BCKA is one of the best Kickboxing Organisations in the country after returning with an impressive haul of 9 medals.

The pool of talent within the BCKA was clear for all to see, the 9 had already proved themselves as the best the country has to offer after qualifying for the Championships, and they went one step further by impressing on a World class level.

It is the biggest medal haul the BCKA has ever managed, and not only does it show how far the organisation has come, but hopefully, is a sign of things to come in the future.

Most notably, Nicola Gemmill not only won herslef a bronze medal in her catergory, but she did it in style, beating the reigning World Champion in the first round, she also managed to win a Silver medal in the team event. Alexander Barrowman also impressed enough to be picked for the team event, and got a Bronze medal for his troubles. Kevin Williams managed Bronze in both the Points and Continuous sections, taking the World Champion all the way in the points semi-final.

Jo and Katie set to fight for England -

Two members of the Pemberton Chinese Kickboxing Club in Rushden are to fight for England at the WKC World Championships in Dublin next month.

Jo Luck, 23, and Katie Grant, 22, have both been with the club for 10 and nine years respectively and have won several honours in that time.

Luck will compete in the light continuous category while Grant lines up in the semi-contact section.

Both girls go to Ireland with high hopes of success after strong performances in the past year.

Grant was only recently defeated by a single point in a contest against one of the sport's current world champions.

Meanwhile Luck has fought four world champions in the past year, beating one of them in only her second contest in the light continuous category.

And the success continued at last week's British Championships in Corby where Luck won gold in the light continuous category at both her own weight heavyweight while Grant took gold in the points section.

Both girls are trained at the Pemberton Centre by Andy Luck and both are also under the guidance of current England BCKA and WKC team manager Alex Barrowman.

Classes are held at the Pemberton Centre on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm until 9pm and are open to fighters aged seven and older.

Alex Barrowman Jnr, Richard Faller, Kevin Williams, Ryan Winham, Luke Smith, Nichola Gemmill and Sarah Simpson will all also be heading to the World Championships in Dublin to represent England. So the BCKA is sure to be well represented on the world stage this year.

Another Successful BCKA British Championships -

BCKA's very own British Championships took place on Saturday October 10th this year, and seemed to go down very well with the spectators. Fighters from all over the country travelled to Corby to take part in the competition, which is held annually by Alex Barrowman at the BCKA Headquarters, Lodge Park, Corby.

The Competition included a large number of categories, including Beginners, Intermediate and Seniors, in both Points and Continuous sections. It also boasted a Sets competition, as well as weapons.

There was certainly some top class fighters on show, with all the senior categories getting the crowd on their feet surrounding the mats. Finally congratulations to all for taking part, as well as to those that won themselves a trophy or medal.
