Richie Wooton began training way back in 1994 in kung fu and today trains in Corby under Alex Barrowman. Taking only a two year break back in 1999, Richie has been training for 14 years and still loves it. He takes his training very seriously seeing it as a way to better himself and all his efforts were rewarded in 2007 by achieving the status of black sash.
A BCKA and now WKC international, Richie is widely renowned for being a semi contact fighter with phenomenal hand speed. However there is more to Richie than just his semi contact skills, after representing the BCKA Team in several fight nights Richie enjoys fighting light contact also and in 2011 became Irish Open Champion in light contact even knocking out an opponent on the way.
Richie is a popular member of the BCKA, he gets on with all his fellow martial artists and will do his utmost to help and give advice to newer inexperienced fighters and students. Motivated most by competition, Richie’s focus currently lies on his preparations for the Irish Open and in qualifying for the WKC World Championships.
2011 was an important year for Richie. In this year he won the Irish Open, competed in another World Championships reaching the quarter finals and took his second degree black sash. Richie also stepped in to fight at the Clash of the Titans and put in a great performance. All of this earned Richie the BCKA Martial Artist of the Year award at the annual BCKA Presentation Evening.
