Profile –

Well liked and popular member of the BCKA, Katie Grant has been training with the association for over ten years.  In this time she has increased her training so much that she trains virtually everyday and has represented both the BCKA and WKC England Teams.  Starting off as a young teenager, Katie began training with her mum at the Rushden and Raunds clubs under Nick Marchant.  These days she trains under both Chief Instructor Alex Barrowman in Corby and still with Nick Marchant in Rushden.

Katie holds second degree black belt in kickboxing, taking this in 2011 and focuses much of her efforts into this discipline, although she has been steadily learning kung fu over the last few years under the guidance of Alex Barrowman.  She began training in order to gain and maintain fitness and for social purposes.  Katie often describes kickboxing training as addictive and it is clear that even after a decade of service to the BCKA she still thoroughly enjoys her training.

As a fighter Katie participates in semi contact divisions and takes the position of Ladie’s Coach in the BCKA England Squad.  Katie would describe herself as a quite defensive fighter.  She makes good use of her staple techniques such as backfist, reverse and side kicks.  With a wide array of experience of competitions – national and international, Katie is a great source of advice for younger and newer fighters.  She is amiable and approachable, always keen to help.  A highly successful fighter, the highest point in Katie’s fighting career to date has to be her bronze medal win at 2009’s WKC World Championships.  At this tournament Katie put in a stunning performance demolishing all opponents laid before her only narrowly missing out on a place in the world championship final.

Katie is an industrious trainer, she works hard and does a lot for the association.  Her current ambitions are to continue training hard and winning competitions with her sights firmly set on 2012’s Irish Open and WKC World Championships.
