Son of BCKA Chief Instructor, BCKA England Team Coach and WKC England Team Points Manager Alex Barrowman, Alex Jnr has trained under his father’s guidance from a young age. Although Alex has a lot of respect afforded to him through being the son of BCKA’s Chief Instructor, with his attitude to training, willingness to help, teaching and of course his incredible fighting ability, he has rightfully earned the respect and admiration of his fellow fighters and instructors at the BCKA and wider.
To say that Alex is a promising fighter would be a huge understatement. Simply Alex has it all. Acute awareness of fighting situations, extraordinary all round technical ability and the skill to adapt his fighting styles to overcome different opponents are just a few of his attributes. Alex favours semi contact fighting but is equally proficient and capable in light contact.
Many believe Alex is extremely fortunate to be the son of Alex Barrowman and that this has shaped and contributed heavily to his success. Whilst this may be true to an extent make no mistake Alex Jnr has put in the hours training unbelievably hard and studying all elements of fighting in order to hone his skills and become the World Champion fighter he is today.
Not only is Alex an extremely talented fighter, he is also a keen martial artist and well respected instructor. He has been voted Young Martial Artist of the Year several times by a panel of BCKA instructors. In 2009 he took his black belt in kickboxing and over the last couple of years he has become more involved in the coaching side of things, regularly taking charge and having an input into BCKA England Squad sessions.
2010 was a special year for Alex which saw him achieve highly on the world stage becoming World Champion in light contact, World Champion as part of the Boys Semi Contact Team and also pick up a bronze medal for his individual semi contact fighting. Alex truly came to form at this World Championships putting in many breathtaking performances. In recognition of this he was also awarded with the BCKA Performance of the Year at the annual BCKA Presentation Evening.
2011 saw Alex successfully defend his world title and pick up another world title in semi contact fighting. Alex also featured in the Clash of the Titans with a winning performance for the Warriors. For his domination of national competitions, two world titles, performance in the Irish Open and the Clash, Alex was named BCKA's Fighter of the Year in 2011.
In short Alex is a credit to his father and the BCKA. An excellent role model and example to new and experienced fighters alike.
